Why This Coin Matters

Few rulers have shaped history as profoundly as Justinian I (AD 527–565). Determined to restore the glory of ancient Rome, he launched ambitious campaigns that reclaimed North Africa, Italy, and parts of Spain, making him the last Roman emperor to reunite much of the Mediterranean under a single government.

This authentic bronze follis was struck between AD 533 and 537, during one of the most remarkable periods of Justinian's reign.
