Why This Pair Matters

Most Roman coins show one ruler. This pair shows a partnership. Severus won the throne by the sword, and Julia Domna gave the new dynasty its court, its circle of thinkers, and its public face. Matched in grade and in metal, the two coins sit side by side the way the couple appeared across the empire.
