Tancred of Hauteville was a Norman nobleman from southern Italy who joined the First Crusade in 1096. He campaigned across Anatolia and Syria and participated in the capture of Jerusalem in 1099, becoming one of the most famous military figures of the expedition.

After the First Crusade, Tancred became deeply involved in the government and defense of the new Crusader states. He served as regent of the Principality of Antioch during periods between AD 1101 and 1112, helping preserve the state during its difficult early years.
