This authentic NGC-certified bronze prutah of Herod Agrippa I comes from one of the most historically and biblically significant rulers of Judaea. Struck between AD 41–44, it represents the reign of the grandson of Herod the Great and a king directly referenced in the New Testament, most notably in Acts 12.
The coin features a royal canopy (kibotos) on the obverse, a symbol of kingship accompanied by the Greek inscription naming Agrippa as king. The reverse displays three barley ears, representing agricultural abundance and prosperity, along with a regnal year marking—often corresponding to Year 6 (AD 42). In keeping with Jewish tradition, the imagery avoids human portraits, reflecting the balance between Jewish customs and Roman authority.
Struck in bronze (AE prutah), these coins were everyday currency in Judaea during a time of significant political and religious importance. Certified by NGC, each example offers authenticity and preservation from a period closely tied to the events of the New Testament.
Herod Agrippa I ruled as a client king under Emperor Claudius and maintained strong ties with Rome while also respecting Jewish traditions. His sudden death in Caesarea, described in Acts 12, became one of the most well-known accounts of a ruler’s dramatic end in biblical history. With his passing, direct Roman rule returned to Judaea, marking the end of the Herodian dynasty’s independent authority.
This is more than just a coin—it’s a biblical artifact. A tangible connection to a king whose life and death are recorded in the New Testament.
