Why This Coin Matters

Geta was elevated to co-Augustus alongside his brother Caracalla by their father Septimius Severus in AD 209. But the relationship collapsed into open hostility — and in AD 211, shortly after their father's death, Geta was murdered, reportedly in the arms of their mother, Julia Domna.

What followed was one of Rome's most chilling acts of political revenge. Caracalla ordered a damnatio memoriae — Geta's name was chiseled from inscriptions, his images destroyed, and his memory officially condemned across the empire. Rome tried to erase him completely.

This coin survived all of it. Struck in high-quality silver, it bears the youthful portrait of an emperor history almost lost — making it one of the most compelling and emotionally resonant coins a collector can own.
