Roman AE Antoninianus of Aurelian (Ad270-275) NGC-South Petherton

Unearthing buried treasure—the stuff of daydreams! Novice treasure hunter George Hughes was optimistic about finding some Roman coins when he took his metal detector to the fields of South Petherton in the fall of 2013. What he discovered, however, surpassed his wildest dreams. Buried in the field was a hoard of third-century Roman coins! Per British law, the British Museum examined, curated, and then released the coins, which then sold at auction. The South Petherton coins in this collection, lovingly restored, include issues from Aurelian.
