On the obverse the cruciform monogram denotes "Mother of God help your servant" On the reverse, the reading is ΝΙΚΗΦΟΡΩ ΥΠΑΤΩ (Nikophoros Consul), the last word, hypatos, being a title (Greek for consul) not a part of the name.
